Happy 2016! Isn’t it fun to begin fresh in the new year? So many possibilities — the year ahead is an unwritten chapter for us to create, and it’s exciting to think about what’s ahead. Of course, we can’t properly turn the page on the year without giving thanks to all of you for making 2015 so amazing. It was certainly one of the most fun, challenging and inspiring years yet! Sharing my love for photography with you, and your trust in me to document these times in your life is a responsibility and a gift.

So, with my humble gratitude, I’m excited to share a few of my favorite portraits lately:

Manhattan KS Family Photography
Hi friends! See anything new around here? I’ve been working on a fresh new look for the website! The update has been a little like having a newborn of my own — ha! Website redesigns are such a labor of love, but I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

In the meantime of working on the site, I got to spend some time with Brett and Hope as they celebrated growing their family with Ava’s arrival! She is every bit as sweet and delicate as you can imagine — and she loved to snuggle throughout the whole session with both mom and dad.

Even her sweet sleepy yawns are adorable, right before she drifted off to sleep. Being a newborn is hard. 😉

Congratulations, Hope and Brett!  These are special moments for your family, and I’m absolutely honored to share in your joy and making photographs to help you remember for years to come. Cheers!

I remember scrolling through my Facebook feed one evening this spring when a friend’s status update got my attention:
We are looking forward to adding a future Cyclone fan to our nest!

I’m always so excited to welcome new arrivals into a family, and this one is especially sweet. And not just because he’s a Cyclone, although that’s a pretty good reason in my book! 🙂 It’s when a family trusts me to photograph their first moments together, and you moms know what those early days after coming home from the hospital are like. There’s a certain vulnerability that comes with a week of sleepless nights, company coming in and out of your house, and adjusting to the physical changes of pregnancy. It’s a lot to take in for any new parent.

So as you can imagine, I felt pretty honored to photograph sweet Callan’s newborn portraits.

At seven days old, Callan was a total snuggler and loved being held and soothed by mom and dad. A simple lifestyle session in their home was the perfect way to celebrate those new connections. Lifestyle sessions like this are about creating natural images — of course, with a little coaching and guidance from behind the camera to help you look your best.
(you know I can’t resist.) Compared to a sleepy posed newborn session, sessions like this are more relaxed and really allow you to be yourself in front of the lens.

The whole time we photographed, Callan was wide awake, alert, and even offered a couple of sweet little smiles.

Their Johnson County home was filled with soft and pretty natural light. If you look around your own house, the best light might be in your kitchen or dining room, or in another part of the home, like a loft or entry way. Unexpected places can make for great photographs!

Callan and family, thank you so much for trusting me with these sweet first moments together. Cheers!
